Why Replace Your Cabinet Knobs?

There are two main reasons homeowners replace the knobs or pull on their kitchen cabinets. The first reason is that knobs and pulls will start to wear over time, giving your kitchen a worn-out look. The second reason is to upgrade the look of your kitchen.

Adding new cabinet knobs or pulls is a quick and easy way to give your kitchen a minor facelift. Although small, new knobs and pulls make a big difference on new and old cabinets.

Types Of Cabinet Hardware

When choosing cabinet hardware, you will choose from either knobs or pulls. Each has its pros and cons, and there are instances where you will want to choose one over the other. Let’s look at the differences between knobs and pulls and when you should use them.

Knobs

Knobs are usually ball or square-shaped and require only one hole to be drilled into your cabinets or drawers. Knobs can be used on cabinet doors and drawers but are usually reserved for doors.

Pulls

Pulls are “U” shaped metal handles that bolt onto your doors or drawers with two mounting points. With their intended use of great pulling leverage, pulls are usually used on drawers. However, they can be mounted vertically to be used on doors.

Knobs and pulls can be used interchangeably between drawers and doors, so it comes down to personal preference. Ask our professionals about the best knobs and pulls for your application for a professional look.

What Size Drawer Pulls Do I Need?

Having the correct size drawer pulls or knobs ensures that your cabinets function correctly and look proportionally correct. To help give you a better idea of what type of drawer pulls you need, follow these recommendations:

  • Small Drawers measuring 12” or less usually work best with a pull that is 3” to 4” long or a knob that is 1” in diameter.

  • Medium Drawers measuring 12” to 30” usually work best with a pull that is between 4” to 8” long or a knob that is between 1” to 1.5” in diameter

  • Large Drawers measuring 30” to 48" usually work best with a pull that is longer than 8" or a knob 1" in diameter or greater. You could also use two pulls or knobs for a large drawer.
